I am an IT analyst based out of the Washington, D.C., area with over 15 years of industry experience, and my current day-to-day focus is on business intelligence. Authorized as a Jaspersoft instructor earlier this year, I teach online (via the Web) and onsite to IT professionals working across different industries. Currently, I am teaching the fundamentals of report writing, where I show students how to use Jaspersoft iReport and Studio. As part of the class, we incorporate elements (such as tables, charts, images, subreports, input controls, and crosstabs) into complex reports intended for business analysts, managers and executives. Other topics include teaching students how to use the following related applications: JasperReports Server, Jaspersoft ETL, and OLAP Workbench. There is also a short presentation I give on data warehousing, a technology used for decision support.
Over the past six years, some of my work has taken me out of the area to places like New York, Texas, South Carolina, Connecticut, Utah, and Rhode Island, and I have also had the opportunity of managing and working on projects overseas in both Canada and Hong Kong SAR.
I have worked on a lot of IT projects since the mid-90s, usually as a project manager or task lead. Although my primary background is centered around overseeing software implementations, I have also overseen enterprise-based projects where the overarching goal was to guide and manage systems engineering endeavors, many of which included working with specialized teams at the Department of State to keep a steady line of hardware and software components on the organization's baseline. The testing that went into these efforts helped the department meet their wide-ranging IT needs.
Additionally, my strong technical writing background enables me to contribute to the development of all types of documents in ways that are appropriate and appealing for an audience. Here is a summary list of the kinds of documents that I work on in my current role: project plans, budget reports, technical specifications, risk plans, end-user manuals, lab workbooks, training plans, and test plans. I also have experience writing other types of documents, which are always well-written, detailed, and professionally formatted.
